Lucas is over a week old now so I figured it was about time I made the effort to give you all an update of Life with Lucas.
- Lucas eats like a champ...he takes after both his Mummy and Daddy in this area. We went to see a lactation consultant just to make sure we were doing everything right. She weighed Lucas before I fed him and after I fed him to estimate how much he was getting per feed. Well Lucas is a super sucker and can eat 2oz in 20mins...half the time of a most babies.
- Getting him to sleep can be a challenge. We don't want to get him into the habit of falling asleep whilst feeding so at times it can be hard to calm him down. This is the hardest thing for Mummy, she can't stand to see her little boy cry no matter how normal it is and will occasionally cry with him.
- Each night he sleeps an average of 4 hours in a row. What a blessing.
- He was born at 8lbs 2oz, went down to 7lbs 12oz and is now back up to 8lbs 1oz...almost back up to birth weight before we even hit the 2 week mark.
- He loves his hands to be free...somehow he manages to get his arms out of the tightest swaddle such as the one above.
- We are working on the 5 S's of Dr. Harvey...Mummy swaddles and Daddy can get him calm by the 4th S...lets hope he this keeps working.
- Thank goodness for Daddys...how some women are single Mothers I have no clue. I am more grateful for my amazing husband than I think I ever have been. He is a WONDERFUL father, just like I knew he would be and he adores his little boy.
- Lucas is very much like his Daddy when it comes to sleeping...he wiggles around a lot, and makes the same kind of noises Daddy does.
- As of right now his favorite place to sleep is his swing...with the highest vibration and the fastest swing. We are working on getting him into his bassinet, but some nights if we want sleep the swing it has to be...he is used to being all curled up and tight in the womb. We wonder how many sets of batteries we will be going through if he keeps loving the swing...
- He loves to use his hands, they are always by his face, holding our fingers or on our chests.
- When he knows its milk time he gets super excited and shakes his head as though he can't find it quick enough.
- He toots and poops like no other...at least we know he works! :) He HATES a poopy nappy, he gets pretty upset over them!
- He likes car rides...they put him to sleep.
- His first outing was to Target...he did GREAT!
- I just lay him on his blanket on the floor to swaddle him up, but he started to just look around so now he is contently laying there exploring the world already, even though everything is still a blur.
- He has such a good temperament and we truly are blessed that he doesn't cry all night long.
- We love seeing his personality develop and are convinced he is going to have quite the sense of humor.
- Today is the official first day of Baseball season, so Daddy is excited to get him dressed up in his customized Giants onesie (it has the name Steenblik on the back with a number 8, Daddy's baseball number), and watch his first Giants game with his son.
Hi kym. Glad all is going well. When can we skype so that we can 'meet' baby Lucas? (and Brett). Chris and Becky
